5 Top Tips for Giving Children an Amazing Vacation

With just a few weeks of summer left, now’s the time to finalize those last minute weekend trips, or start planning for bigger vacations later this year! This guest post, which is provided by one of our site partners, is sharing five top tips for creating an amazing vacation for your kids!

Our Top Tips for Giving Children an Amazing Holiday

Holidays are arguably more important for children than anyone else. We all remember the excitement of heading off on our first ever vacation – wide-eyed and ready to explore somewhere totally new. In order to guarantee children have the best possible time on their travels, follow our top tips.

Bring games along

Travel games, such as the ones the Whole World Or Nothing provide, will keep kids entertained during the worst part of any trip – long journeys. While this will only alleviate the boredom for so long, it will serve as a great way of distracting them for elongated periods of time.

You’ll find most of the games which were popular when you were a kid are still good choices. Scrabble and Uno never go out of fashion. As well as those, you can also make the most of exciting new games like Dobble and Skull.

Think about their health

While you won’t want to bombard kids with medication, you’ll be wise to keep an eye on their health at all times. This ranges from getting vaccinations ahead of the holiday, to making sure they’re lathered up with enough sunscreen during the trip itself.

CTI also provide some handy tips when it comes to the flight out, including:

  • Acupressure wrist bands
  • Nausea tablets
  • Ginger with tablets

Give them a say

Let your kids decide where it is you’d like to head on your next holiday. While you should take all of their suggestions with a pinch of salt, it’s important to let them have some sort of impact on the destination.

It’s important to remember at the end of the day children are ultimately just “little people”. Nobody likes being dictated to, so allow them the chance to have some sort of say in the type of vacation and destination. They may surprise you with a cracking idea.

Stock up on food

Hungry tummies make for unhappy travelers. Make sure you’re constantly supplied with food, whether it’s at the start, middle or end of your trip. The best way to do this is to keep small snack-size bites on your person at all times.

The Food Network highlight a myriad of the best healthy options to take along on a holiday. Bring some of these along for your clan when you next head off on your adventures. You’ll be amazed how content it keeps everyone.

Be open and honest

Don’t lie to your children about how long it is until you arrive, what you plan on doing during the day or any other factor. Being as clear as you can at all times will encourage kids to remain happy, as they won’t feel deceived or powerless. At the end of the day, we can all relate to the annoyance of being lied to – even if it is over something trivial.

Have these ideas inspired you heading forwards? Make sure to keep them in mind if you want to ensure your kids have an amazing trip in the future.
