I’m Jenn, the resident writer and wheeler

Hey there! I’m Jenn Leisey, and I’m the brains behind the blog, Doing Wheelies. Doing Wheelies was started in 2009 after I graduated college with a BA in Professional Writing and zero ideas of what to do with it.

Over the years, the site has grown up right along with me – through name changes,  marriage and divorce, the tribulations of genetic testing and infertility, and becoming Hayla’s guardian and foster parents.

Today, this blog is a space that offers resources and inspiration to busy moms while celebrating women who are in unique and nontraditional parenting situations, such as disabled moms and foster moms.

If you’re interested in working together on a collaboration or promotional post, please click here.

So, who am I?

I’m the loud, snarky mom to 8-year-old Hayla and a slew of kiddos who we’ve been lucky enough to meet through foster care. My family and I live in central Pennsylvania (aka, Amish Country) with our three crazy dogs and elusive cats.

I’m permanently disabled and use a wheelchair due to Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy type 2A, which is a progressive disease where the muscles in my arms, legs (Limbs), and hips (Girdle) slowly deteriorate.

When I’m not blogging, I love to cook (even though my husband, Josh, swears I only do so when we have company), sing, and browse the interwebs for penguins and shiba inu dog memes.

My house is usually covered in dirty dishes and dog fur, but when you walk in the door you’re immediately bombarded by the welcoming committee – aka the kids and the dogs – and invited to stay for dinner. I always thought that was a good trade-off, don’t you?

I’m so glad you stopped by Doing Wheelies and hope you’ll stick around and hang out with my crazy crew.

You can find me on Facebook and Instagram too!
