Healthy Tuna and Apple Salad Recipe

Tuna and Apple Salad Recipe

As someone with diabetes and pcos, salads are one of my easy dinner staples, because they’re quick. low-carb, high fiber meal choices that are as variable as the contents of your fridge. Considering my love of Autumn flavors in salads, when Collective Bias recently challenged a handful of bloggers and myself to create healthy and fresh recipe with Ocean Naturals tuna without heavy flavors like mayo, bread, and cheese, I knew salad was the way to go. Plus, with each serving of Ocean Naturals tuna having a whopping 15g of protein, adding canned tuna to a salad is a healthy option for making sure that salad keeps you full.

I originally found the flavor pairing for a tuna and apple salad on a bodybuilding website, but whether you’re using it to fuel a workout or as the main course to a celebration dinner party, this salad is as visually stunning as it is tasty.

Good, Good for You, Good for the Planet

apple-and-tuna-salad-recipe-1 #shopOcean Naturals is an interesting brand because the company has a huge focus on delivering a product that is as good for the economy and the environment as it is healthy. Using only wild, responsibly-caught seafood that is not only guaranteed dolphin-safe, Ocean Naturals is a supporter of the Earth Island Institute and uses fishing techniques that leave minimal impact on the ocean’s ecosystem.

Plus, you can also enter the code on the can at  OceanNaturals.com/My-Tuna to find out exactly where your specific tuna came from.

I like the fact that the tuna’s label reiterates the promise to Mother Nature . . . until I realized that the tuna is in a can, wrapped in a cardboard box.  If a brand is proud of its steps to be an eco-friendly company, they should uphold that mentality throughout all aspects of their products, including reducing packaging materials. Just saying.

Deliciously healthy tuna

Tuna and Apple Salad recipeTuna is protein-dense and full of healthy Omega-3 fatty acids, which are known to help prevent disease and heart conditions, promote healthy hair, skin, and nails, and improve insulin response in the body.

This tuna and apple salad is a great healthy option for anyone following a low-carb, gluten-free, Paleo, or Mediterranean diet without feeling like “diet” or “health” food. Chock full of sweet and tangy flavors that pair awesomely with the tuna, like crisp green apples, dried cranberries, red onion and balsamic vinaigrette, this salad will fill you up without weighing you down. Plus, it looks all kinds of fancy, doesn’t it?!

This is a great salad for Autumn! It reminds me of a salad that I used to eat ALL.THE.TIME but I never thought to add tuna to it. Great idea, Jenn. 🙂 #client
