Sprucing Up Your Guest Room for Spring

If you’ve got guests staying at your house this spring and are panicking a bit, keep reading this collaborative post from Discount Floor Depot, to learn tips and tricks for quickly renovating and refreshing your guest room, even if you are doing so on a tight budget!

Use what you already have

Whenever possible, put what you already own to use. Decorate with pictures you’ve been meaning to hang or artwork that doesn’t fit the décor in other rooms of your house anymore. This is an especially good idea if your guest room is not likely to be used often: the last thing you want is to spend a lot of money on furniture that will only be used for a couple of weeks of the year.

If it’s not common for you to use your guest room, you may be better off temporarily rearranging bedroom space. Can your kids bunk together for a few nights, while you set up a temporary bed or air mattress in the child’s room? If you can afford it, invest in a mattress topper. This will make the bed more comfortable for your visitor, and you can roll it up and store it when it is not in use.

Freshen up the room fast

If updating décor is totally out of the question, never underestimate the power of a good deep clean. Your guests want to feel warm and welcome, and most importantly, not grossed out. Dusting, opening the windows to air it out for a day, and putting fresh linens on the bed can make any room habitable.

If you have enough time and funds, the fastest way to make a grubby room look fresh again is a fresh coat of paint. Two people can easily repaint a small bedroom in a few hours for a very small cost.

Again, depending on how much renovation the room needs, you may also want to consider updating the flooring. Firms like Discount Flooring Depot sell inexpensive laminate flooring, which can be installed in just a couple of hours. Yet they will continue to look good for many years. The fact that it is available in such a wide choice of finishes makes it easy to achieve the look you want.

Don’t forget the finishing touches

Adding in extras is what makes a room look homey and welcoming. Rugs look nice and help to protect the floors. You just need to make sure that they have a non-slip backing.

If the lighting in the room is not particularly great, fix the problem by buying a bedside lamp. This will enable your guest to turn it on and off to adjust the light to their needs. Adding a TV or even a mini fridge is not essential, but can be a nice touch, and gives your guest the option to spend a little down time on their own.

Provided you are organized and work together as a family, the work outlined above can easily be done over the course of a weekend. Even if you do not have much notice, you will still be able to put your guest up in comfort.

As well as following the guidelines above, you can download and use this simple checklist. Taking this approach will ensure that nothing is missed so that you can relax and enjoy the company of your guest.
